Suits in boston.
There are only two suits in boston called the older one and the younger one. The older one is defined at the first deal and retains its status during the game.
The suit opened at the next deal is determined as the younger one. Sometimes the older one may appear during one of the next deals. In this case it remains in the game.
It`s necessary to order "solo" or "independence" when playing with all four suits. However, one should avoid a great number of suits, because it enlarges the bank.
Opponents and partners.
With 13 cards in hand each player either moves or passes.
The first one "in hand" starts talks. He may ask to play with the suits he names or he may say "pass".
No one has right to buy after pass was declared. Also no one can reject his move.
In case the four of the players pass the bank is moved to the next dealer`s right. He deals out cards for a new game.
When the first player declared a game, the second player may accept a challenge or say "pass". If he accepts a challenge, the two of them become partners. The goals is to win the bank away from the rest two players. These players become the opponents of the first couple of players.
If the second player passes, the third one enters the talks. In case the third one says "pass", then the fourth one may become the partner of the first player. Then the second and the third player become their opponents.
It may happen three player say "pass". In this case the first player had to fight against three opponents. He is obliged to take only five tricks. Having taken these five tricks, he wins the bank.
If he fails to take five tricks, the other three players win the bank. Besides, the looser has to pay sum equal to his possible winnings.
It`s advisable not to prompt or suggest the suit to the partner. The opponents may take advantage of your prompting and refuse the unfavorable game.
To the side and opposite.
Boston is different from whist. The partner may sit to your side or opposite you. If partners sit opposite, the rules of the game resemble those of whist. If partners sit side by side, the one sitting to the right should try to win the strongest cards from the opponents. In this case his partner can beat them and defend his queens and kings.
If suit is changed, it`s preferable to declare the suit in which the opponent had a renounce.
The opponent sitting at the player`s hand must place the strongest trumps at the card whose suit is possibly absent at the player`s hand.
If you suggest that your opponent has the older cards in reserve, try not to play with the suit, especially if he has king with ace or queen with king and ace, or jack with ace, king and queen.
