Unlike in other gambling games there are trumps in ecarte. No scoring.
Two full packs are used. Cards are dealt to four person, though there may be 8 of them at the table. Each one gets 4 cards. The 17th card becomes the trump. Then all cards are exposed. Player with trumps wins. Seniority of trumps is considered. Player with the highest trump gets the winnings. Croupier compares the trumps.
Trumps of the same dignity are not regarded, they are sloughed. For instance, both croupier and ponter have aces. They are not paid if only a croupier or a player has one additional trump. The highest trump wins. Each player may take a trick to the card.
They also take tricks if one of them has a high trump and the other has two small trumps.
Equal trumps, even medium ones are excluded. First trick is taken by the player with the highest trump.
One can play ecarte with a limited bank and a responsible bank
Limited bank involves the known sum of 5, 10, 15 or more units. First and the second partners must stake at 5 or 3, for instance. The last one may stake at any sum.
If the bank is taken by the first player, the rest of players neither get not give away is spite of the fact that they have minor cards, or the croupier has any trumps.
Croupier may establish the limited bank for the next time. In case it is taken, the croupier established a responsible bank (this means he answers the stakes of each player).
The responsible bank is not obliged to continue the game, the opposite player may be asked to shuffle the cards for the new game. However, the responsible bank can not be in two games in a row.
