Whist. Part 2

Occasional and deliberate mistakes

1. Players don`t mention the renounce till the trick is open, but then the opponents may demand the player who made a mistake to give lower or higher card of the suit.

2. If you doubt honesty and competence of your partner, you may ask him if he makes a mistake. Let us assume that he really made a mistake, then you bear no responsibility, that is your partner who is fined.

3. If a player doesn`t wait for his turn and leads, other players may either admit his card or demand the suit.

4. If a player, sitting third to the one who ended the game, leads the card before the second player, the fourth one can slough before his partner. Such a mistake can`t be corrected.

5. If a player unintentionally or deliberately doesn`t give a card for a trick and continues to play with an extra card, the opponents may decide whether to keep playing or to ask for a new deal.

6. If a player unintentionally or deliberately slough several cards for a trick, the opponents may insist on his taking one of the cards by their choice.

7. Cards exposed before the end of the game are managed by the opponents.

8. Only the two last cards may be looked into.

Moves, suits, trumps

1. It is better to lead the long suit. For instance, if you have queen, jack, nine, lead the queen.

2. If you have ace and low cards, lead the lower card first.

3. If you have the king tierce or four of kind, lead the lower card. Don`t lead the two of a kind.

4. Lead the queen tierce only in exceptional cases, if you do not have better cards of different suit.

5. If you managed to take the trick, when your partner gave a suit, follow his suit.

6. However, if you have your own strong suit, lead it first, then follow your partner`s suit.

7. Having a strong suit, one should lead the highest card or the lowest one.

8. If you have more than tree trumps, don`t lead them till your partner wants you to do it.

9. If your partner has a renounce in a suit, it will be useful to lead this suit in order for him to give the small trumps.

10. It is also useful to lead the trump, if your opponents beat trumps. This means they have lots of them, thus it is better to defend your suits and not to give your trumps for their honors.

11. You have to be sure to give trumps if you have a strong suit. Then your opponents won`t be able to beat trumps.

12. It is recommended to lead trump if you have 4 or 5 of them.

13. If you have a king and a queen of the same suit, don`t lead this suit. Your partner or an opponent may follow the suit, and you`ll have to give the queen.

14. To the partner`s card you have to place your higher card.

15. With the exception of the case when your partner led a king and you have an ace. Thus, you let this card go.

16. If you have an ace and your partner led queen, then slough a small card on the queen in the beginning, and head a trick in the end.

One doesn`t lead the suit that is absent in one`s opponents` hands.

Hinds and suggestions

1. Lead a queen of two or a jack of two only if you do not have a game. You will declare your difficult situation to the partner.

2. If the four of the players share the game, it will be useful to conceal your strategy.

3. You should never follow your opponents` suit.

4. Don`t lead the thirteenth card if you haven`t slough all trumps yet.

5. You shouldn`t lead the single card, you can mislead your partner. This is a big mistake! Wait for your opponent`s move in this case, and you may head the trick.

6. If a partner has found out he had a strong cards in one suit and a renounce in another, lead a single card of the strong suit if there`s any. Then employ the suit which can be beaten by your partner`s trumps. Probably, both partners start head the tricks of the suits in which they have renounce.

7. Having four kings, don`t beat the cards that can be taken by your partner.

8. If you have less than 4 trumps without honors, you should head beat these cards by trumps.

9. If you have a doubleton (e.g. the king and the queen), lead the higher one (king). And the lower one is given for a trick.

10. Having an ace and a king, lead the king first. Show your partner the ace.

11. If you have an ace, king and queen, lead the queen first. Having an ace, king, queen and jack, one should lead the king and the queen first.

12. Don`t cover the 13th card by the trump, if you are not the last player.

13. Having several trumps, one should lead the strongest one first.

14. The first card sloughed by your partner is normally the one of a week suit, thus do not follow this suit.

15. It is dangerous to try to mislead the opponents by fake moves. Your partner may be misled too.
An ancient gaming rule says:" A good player do not have to use such tricks, the noble game makes the happy end."

The main condition

Pay attention to your partner`s and opponents` playing. You must keep in mind 26 cards (yours and your partner`s). Try to guess cards. The experienced players have their own hinds. You should know that only in 4 cases out of 10 the player to your left will have the higher card of the suit led by the player to your right.

Besides, you should always hope that you partner has at least 2 strong cards of your weak suit.
